French investors are flocking to Spain in search of a bargain holiday home in light of the weakened state of France’s property market, and the severe impact of President Hollande's austerity measures.

According to data from property website Kyero , French buyers accounted for 18.2% of overseas enquiries for Spanish properties from January-June 2014.

Spain has had an impressive performance in the tourism sector since the beginning of 2014 going on to register 21.4m foreign visitors from January through to May, up an impressive 8.2% year-on-year.

During the month of May alone, 6.1 million tourists visited the Spanish mainland and islands, a 5.7% year-on-year increase and a record in the history of Spanish tourism.

World-leading real estate consultants CBRE have revealed that Spain's hotel investment market reached €724m in the first six months of 2014.

The increase in investor-interest in the hotel sector of Europe's top tourist destination has been attributed to the record numbers of visitors and hotel occupancy rates in more than seven years.

Investment in the hotel industry has already exceeded those throughout the whole of 2013 which saw €665m of transactions.

According to Spain's national statistics office (INE) , total property sales increased for the fourth consecutive month, with resale property driving the increase in transactions.

After a 10 month long slump in house prices, the new data shows that buying interest has picked up by almost 10% with 162,591 properties being sold in the first half of 2014.
